Around the house

We've been working on the house lately, trying to make it look like actual adults live here and not drunken squatters. We also finally got around to putting up the pot rack from a garage sale and I'm so in love with this thing it's not even cute. We're starting work on the house now, so when the time comes it's worth as much as possible. We decided against selling the house, instead we're going to use the equity from it to purchase the land, and rent it so it continues to pay down the mortgage. So if all goes according to plan, we'll have the house, AND a farm. That way down the road if say, my folks can't keep up with their home or there's a financial emergency, we'll have the house to use.

In other news, we were out at a home supply store the other day and they had seed packets on sale, like 11 packets for 99 cents sale. Growing up with a woman who hunts sales like other's hunt food, I'm unable to resist something like this. But considering we have all our veggie seeds planned from a catalogue, I decided to get all flowers to spruce up the outside of the house and attract butterflies. With all the luck we had from just the marigolds, I can only imagine how many seeds I'm going to be collecting this fall.

We've had a small horde of squirrels invade our yard. We haven't done anything to stop it, we actually enjoy their fuzzy acrobatics, and they keep the cats occupied. There's enough seed outside to drown them, so it's a win win situation.

And finally, cute photos of Atticus.

The farm

So you already know, but Kylie was adopted from a horse farm. They board 60 horses, do riding lessons, as well as raising cattle and hosting an ark worth of animals. We go back to visit to give her a chance to run around with no leash and catch up with the other dogs on the farm, as well as letting the owners see her again. We also go because it's now my favorite place around, the owners are incredibly compassionate and kind folks. For example: a premature calf born two weeks early was having difficulty breathing and was close to death. The vets said there wasn't any more they could do and let nature take it's course. So what did they do? They went out and rented an oxygen tank and gave the calf nebulizer treatments. This is the calf a few weeks later:

His name is Boo-boo, and he now thinks he's a dog and follows them around like one. When we visit they let me bottle feed him, which makes my day beyond any other day making things I come across there. So, for those who like lots and lots of photos, here was our day on the farm yesterday!

This coop holds chickens, turkeys, ducks, guinea hens, and one goose.
I'm beyond jealous.

There's a blind horse they have, and this is his seeing eye pony.
Notice the bells on his collar, the other horse follows him around by the bells.

Mini Donkeys!!

Their cattle. Most are red angus, they've just had a bunch of calves.

This is Ripley, he's a good boy.

TREATS!?

Queen of the mountain!

I just hope in a few years we can have a farm this awesome.
