So I really try to keep my leftist tree hugging leanings to a minimum on this blog, but I'm gonna take a brief moment to get up on my soap box. Sorry to all my ardent tea party readers (yeah right, like I have readers) Please place your hands over your ears and hum that Herman Cain cover of "Imagine" for a few moments.
I'm not anti-capitalism. I believe in private property, the second amendment, and that if you work hard (and honestly) that you deserve the spoils of success. I don't begrudge someone who invented a product that bettered the lives of all of us enjoying financial success, or someone who went through arduous training and long hours of study to reach a career that rewards them for their hard work. My father is a podiatrist, and the amount of schooling and training he had to claw through is unbelievable. (Did you know you have to dissect a dead person to pass medical school? I know, I know, it creeps me out too) I grew up in a comfortable home, because my father was working his ass off, and still is to send my brother to a good college. I don't have a problem with capitalism.
What I have a problem with, is stealing.
Finding clever and callous ways to manipulate money, to manipulate people, to manipulate our system of governing ourselves, that is not honest work.
Worming your way into the political process to ensure that you, and only you, will prosper; that is despicable.
Using your new found power to constrict the rights of others (who work just as hard) who had a voice in their work place, to negotiate and find a common agreement on what they feel is fair compensation for their work, to destroy that is criminal.
To actively attempt to keep fellow citizens from being able to vote, under the charade of "voter fraud" when it is nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt at making sure only people who agree with you, and look like you, and worship the same god as you - can vote, that is un-American.
All of these things are connected. All of these things and more are why I support the Occupation.
Is it perfect? No. Do I agree with all of their tactics? No.
Are we sending them winter clothes and hot coco?
Yes.

Yes, you have readers, and I am one of them. Although I have been known to enjoy a pot of Earl Grey from time to time, I am definitely not a Tea Partier - I believe we have a responsibility to care for each other, and that if I strive to benefit at someone else's expense, then that makes me a bad, bad person.
ReplyDeleteYou, on the other hand, are a good, good person. You care, you believe, you take action. You are making the world a better place.
You're gonna make me blush!
